Interview protocol –
In accordance with DOT guidelines and to retain integrity of the interview process, all tests (DOT or Non) are conducted in the same manner noted below.
A minimum of three attempts, over a 24 hour period with a minimum of four hours between attempts, are made to contact the employee. The exceptions to this rule are as follows but are not limited to, no voicemail to leave a message, disconnected line, wrong number, etc.
If contact is not established, a ‘clock letter’ is sent to the DER. This letter explains our request for assistance from the DER. It is common for people to ignore calls from a number they do not know, and it is growing less and less likely for people to check their voicemails. It is our desire to offer each employee the opportunity to clear their non-negative drug test results with medical explanation when possible.
During an interview, we will go over medications, medical treatment, over the counter medication use and environmental exposure. However, a result can only be amended to negative with a verifiable medical explanation. Therefore, once the interview is conducted, we will seek employee assistance to verify their Rx (when needed).
Once an interview is conducted, and medical explanation can be verified, or an acceptable amount of time has been allowed or medical confirmation, a result will be released.
